| A well-fit suit can make a huge difference in your overall personality and helps you stand out amongst your peers. |
When you are in a store buying a suit, you should stand infront of the mirror in your normal comfortable stance with arms by your side. Then you should check whether all the areas are fitting or not. If the suit isn't comfortable in your normal stance, then it won't be comfortable during your movements either.
Here are some of the points to consider while buying a suit.
1. Seam of shoulder should be flat. It should extend firmly over the shoulder bone without any wrinkles.
2. Seam of shoulder should meet the sleeve at the exact point where shoulder meets the arm. If the meeting point is higher, it gives a 'pinched' look. And, if the meeting point is lower, it gives a 'baggy' look.
If you are purchasing a readymade suit, then make sure that your shoulders are well-fit because modifying the shoulder part is one of the hardest things for tailors. And, you might never be able to modify it the way you like.
3. Jacket collar should rest lightly on shirt collar without any bunching or folding. A loose jacket collar is easy to identify as it creates a bunching at the back of your neck. However, a tight jacket collar creates a folding at the back beneath the neck and is difficult to spot. Plus, it is usually associated with other issues such as bad shoulder or an unfit back panel. So, I recommend you to have a good fit in the very first place.
4. Lapels should neither flare out nor hang off your body. One way to check whether your lapels are well-fit is by inserting the flat of your hand between the lapels and your shirt. If it slips in easily, then your chest isn't tight and your lapels will not flare out.
5. Button of your jacket should not be strained. If it is strained, then you can see wrinkles radiating out from the button and a small area of shirt through the button hole. These signs indicate that your jacket is tight and you should visit your tailor as soon as possible.
6. Tob button of a two-button suit and middle button of a three-button suit should not lie below your navel.

| Finding a perfect suit may seem daunting especially for beginners, but infact it is quite easy if you follow these steps. |
7. Jacket hem should extend upto the middle of your hand. And yes, this is one of the important things to consider. Usually, people tend to neglect this part, but follow it and you'll definitely look better in your suit.
8. Jacket sleeve should show about half an inch of shirt cuff. However, the distance shouldn't be exactly half an inch and minor variations may be considered.
But, you should make sure that jacket sleeve shouldn't rise entirely above the shirt cuff or completely cover it.
9. Back of your trouser should smoothly cover the shape of your body. It should neither look too loose or be too tight. If the back of your trouser is tight, then you can spot horizontal lines under the buttocks. And, if its too loose, you can find the area sagging by the thigh.
10. There should be a small wrinkle at the front bottom of your trouser. The wrinkle should be a subtle feature and not too obvious. Usually, this is achieved when you follow the next 2 points.
11. Front bottom of your trouser should just rest on top of your shoe.
12. Back of your trouser should fall no further than your heel.
I hope these points were helpful. Always be patient and try a variety of suits until you find your perfect match. Until and unless you are comfortable and fully satisfied keep trying more suits.
