We tend to discuss more on a perfect suit or a well-fit suit with our friends. But, we often neglect t-shirts which are a man's go-to outfit on many occasions.
T-shirts are just a great piece of clothing. They can be worn on many situations, which is what makes them so versatile. Casual hangouts, with suits, during a walk, in gym, at home - these are just a few of the situations where a t-shirt is used.
T-shirt fit also says a lot about its owner. A well-fit or a perfect t-shirt shows that the person is someone who is organised and cares about how he looks in public. Usually, these people are optimistic and have a positive attitude.
It is not difficult to find a good t-shirt which fits well either. They aren't too expensive and are rather affordable for a common man. And, as most of the t-shirts are almost entirely made of cotton, they are quite comfortable.
But what exactly is a well-fit or a perfect t-shirt? Here are some points which determine the t-shirt you are going to buy is tailor-made for you or not.
1. Collar should rest firmly at the base of your neck.
If your t-shirt has a crew neck, then your t-shirt collar should rest firmly at the base of your neck. If the collar's tight, you'll feel a pressure effect at your neck. And, if your collar bones are visible, then it means the t-shirt collar is loose and not well-fit.
Contrary to crew neck, if you are wearing a t-shirt with V neck, make sure that the tip of collar doesn't extend too deep. The tip should lie midway between the dip in collar bone and an imaginary line joining the top of your armpits.
SHOULDER
2. Shoulder seam ends on acromian.
If the seam ends beyond your acromian, it means the t-shirt is big for you. If it ends before the acromian, it means the t-shirt is smaller than your required fit. In both these cases, you won't feel comfortable moving your shoulders, and it's better if you try a new t-shirt.
SLEEVE
3. Sleeve length is midway between armpit and elbow.
However, some people tend to roll over their t-shirt sleeve once or twice to look more casual. This modification is absolutely fine as long as it compliments your look.
What you need to make sure is not to have your sleeve closer to your elbow. If the t-shirt sleeve is too much closer to your elbow, then your hands will look rather small, and your overall look awfully deranged.
So, make sure to keep your t-shirt sleeve nearer the mid-region between armpit and elbow.
4. Sleeve width is neither too compressive nor is tenting out.
The t-shirt sleeve should just hug the arm.
TORSO
5. No pulling under the armpits.
There should be some free space below your armpits, which allows free movement around your shoulder joint. If you feel a pulling effect during movements, then your t-shirt is tight at your armpits, and it is better to choose a new one.
However, the free space shouldn't be excess, as it will make your t-shirt look larger with unnecessary folds near armpits.
6. No tension lines on torso.
If you see tension lines on torso, then your t-shirt is tight. A well-fit t-shirt should have a flat torso sans any tensions.
7. About 1-2 inches of fabric on either side of torso.
You should be able to feel about 1-2 inches of your t-shirt fabric on either side of your torso. If you can feel more, then your t-shirt is bigger your size. Anything less, your t-shirt is definitely tight.
LENGTH
8. Length of t-shirt is upto mid-fly. If your t-shirt length is lesser, it will just rise up during movements. And, if the t-shirt is longer, it will not fit properly. In short, just make sure that neither your lower abdomen is visible nor the t-shirt covers your entire butt.
I hope these points were helpful. I would recommend you try on as many t-shirts as possible, until you find the one best fit for you.
Thanks, as always, for reading!
